How to prepare yourself before you have an emergency –
- WhatsApp is the preferred app for communicating in Mexico. Everyone including the Mexicans seem to be use it. Download WhatsApp on your phone before you have an emergency.
- Setup the emergency phone number +52 612-159 0468 in your cell phone and in WhatsApp. This number will go directly to our Grupo Sierra Paramedics here in La Ventana. Of course, you can always dial 911.
- Please go to our link to learn some helpful Spanish Phrases for emergencies. It would be a good idea to print and post the phrases in an easily accessible place. A few of our paramedics understand English, but they do not speak English at this time. They are learning English to better serve the community.

What to do during an emergency –

Using Whatsapp –
- Call +52 612-159-0468 for fastest response. This number goes directly to the Grupo Sierra Paramedics emergency phone.
- Explain the emergency and pin your location so they can find you.
- The Ambulance will be dispatched.
- If possible, send someone out to the street to flag down the ambulance.
- The hospital requires a credit card or cash, and a government issued ID (passport, residency card, driver’s license) for admission. So, please be sure to have a payment method available.
Using your cell phone (without WhatsApp) –
- Dial +52 612-159-0468. This number goes directly to the Grupo Sierra Paramedics emergency phone.
- Explain the emergency and describe your location so they can find you.

You can always call 911.
911 is answered in La Paz. Please let them know where you are located. For example, La Ventana or El Sargento, etc. The 911 operator will then dispatch an ambulance. They do not speak English, so knowing a few phrases will help. See Spanish Phrases for Emergencies.
